AMA hut HACHIMAN
Ama divers are a female diver that catches seafood in a freediving style. Make friends with them and peak into Ama’s sustainable lifestyle. Osatsu in Toba City, Mie Prefecture, accommodates the largest number of Ama divers in Japan. Ama divers are considered a treasure by the community. Now, they are inviting guests from all over to their huts to share their precious experience.
Here in the ama huts, you can hear their stories about fishing and observe their lifestyle, all while tasting their freshly grilled seafood. Try on an Ama costume (popular with foreign tourists too) and partner with them in the local dance, Osatsu Ondo.
The Free shuttle service "Ama Bus" is available from Kintetsu Toba Station. The ama huts are certified as a "Mie Safe Hospitality Facility" and have free WIFI throughout. Meals can be accommodated with advance reservation and include Vegetarian, vegan, Muslim halal dishes, and allergy free recipes. etc. There is a small purification facility, separate Islamic prayer rooms for men and women, and a universal facility with wheelchair rental. Rental bicycles are also available.
